Houston Grand Opera Auditions: Non-Speaking Roles for “Messiah”

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is holding auditions for one adult actor and one child actor to appear as supernumeraries (non-singing, non-speaking) in a staged production of Handel’s Messiah (Mozart arrangement), conceived by the late visionary Robert Wilson. This marks the first time Wilson’s staging of Messiah will be presented in the U.S.—and HGO’s first-ever staged Messiah.

👤 Roles & Requirements

YOUNG GIRL (Supernumerary) 👧

  • Age/Height: ~8–13 years old, 5’2″ or shorter
  • Skills: Can follow precise direction, remain still for long periods, and repeat stylized movement (🩰 dance background a plus)

OLD MAN (Supernumerary) 👴

  • Age Range: ~60–80 years old
  • Skills: Expressive without dialogue; must be able to kneel for an extended period 🙏
