Olympia Little Theatre is inviting actors to audition for The Gifts of the Magi, a new holiday stage production written and directed by Kendra Malm. The play is based on the beloved short story by O. Henry and offers performers the opportunity to be part of a fresh adaptation being presented for the first time.
Auditions will be held at the Olympia Little Theatre Annex, with no appointment required. Actors do not need to prepare a monologue or any audition material in advance, as auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Interested performers may attend either audition date, and while attending both days is not required, actors are welcome to come to both if they wish.

This version of The Gifts of the Magi is set in 1930s New York City, but the production is described as a holiday fable rather than a strictly realistic period piece. Because of this, casting is expected to be flexible. While the Youngs are written as a young newlywed couple, the other roles may be played by actors of nearly any age. The characters are also not limited to a specific ethnic background, and gender may be flexible for certain roles as well.
✨ Available Roles
- Della Young – A young wife who is enthusiastic, loving, and practical, with a strong sense of determination.
- Jim Young – Della’s husband, proper and straightforward, deeply devoted to his new bride.
- Maude Young – Jim’s younger sister, who warmly approves of Della but enjoys teasing both her brother and sister-in-law.
- Mr. Skinner – Jim’s boss, a grumpy and pessimistic man who is also notably tight-fisted.
- Mme. Sofronie – A wigmaker with a sour personality, far less refined than her title might suggest.
- Merv Frankengold – A witty and sardonic pawnshop owner who has seen it all, but still has a heart of gold.
- Valarie Frankengold – Merv’s cheerful and down-to-earth wife, always willing to help others.
One of the most exciting parts of this production is that it is a new version of the story. Cast members will have the chance to help shape the characters and contribute to the development of the script throughout the rehearsal process.
Actors interested in holiday theatre, character-driven storytelling, and classic literature adaptations are encouraged to attend. With no preparation required and no appointment needed, this is a welcoming opportunity for both experienced performers and community theatre actors looking for their next stage role.
