Costa Mesa Playhouse is proud to present Sweat by Lynn Nottage, a gripping drama that won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Set in a working-class town, Sweat explores the lives of a close-knit group of friends whose relationships are tested by layoffs, union struggles, and shifting loyalties. As economic hardship deepens, tensions rise, friendships fracture, and the American Dream is put to the test. This thought-provoking production, directed by Brooke Aston Harper, delves into themes of race, class, and resilience in the face of industrial decline.

STAN – Male, 50+, White American of German descent. Bartender.
OSCAR – Male, 22-30, Colombian-American. Works at the bar.
TRACEY – Female, 40-50, White American of German descent. Jason’s mother.
CYNTHIA – Female, 40-50, African-American. Chris’s mother and Brucie’s ex-wife.
JESSIE – Female, 40s, Italian-American.
BRUCIE – Male, 40s, African-American. Chris’s father and Cynthia’s estranged husband.

Rehearsal Schedule

First Rehearsal: Saturday, April 5, 2024
Schedule: Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons until May 10, 2024
