About the Play

“Dive Bar” is a dark comedy set during one long night inside an Inglewood dive bar.

The story begins when a mysterious older man enters the bar while police helicopters circle overhead in search of a shooting suspect. As the bar regulars begin speculating, their half-drunk theories quickly grow into paranoia. What starts as conversation soon turns into a dangerous fight for survival.

The play offers an ensemble cast the chance to move between sharp comedy and serious dramatic stakes, all within one tense location.

Available Roles

Charlie

  • 👤 Gender: Man
  • 🎂 Age Range: 45 to 55
  • 🌎 Ethnicity: All ethnicities

Charlie is a burly bar owner who lost his wife the previous year. He is still searching for purpose without her and carries the weight of someone who feels tired, settled, and unsure of what comes next.

Goose

  • 👤 Gender: Man
  • 🎂 Age Range: 40 to 50
  • 🌎 Ethnicity: Hispanic

Goose is a regular at the bar and a friend of Charlie. He is loud, energetic, confident, and physically fit for his age. However, the shortcuts he has taken in life have finally caught up with him, and he is struggling to regain what he has lost.

Willie

  • 👤 Gender: Man
  • 🎂 Age Range: 30 to 40
  • 🌎 Ethnicity: All ethnicities

Willie is another bar regular and often serves as Goose’s opposite. He sits at the bottom of the bar’s social ladder and always seems tense. He feels stuck at the bar but would rather be at home. His energy is similar to Cliff Claven, but without the confidence.

Sam

  • 👤 Gender: Woman
  • 🎂 Age Range: 20 to 30
  • 🌎 Ethnicity: Hispanic

Sam is a waitress and former singer who moved from Los Angeles to Texas. After losing her mother at a young age, especially someone she used to sing to, Sam’s playful nature faded. She now presents a tough exterior and is still searching for who she really is.

Mr. Smith

  • 👤 Gender: Man
  • 🎂 Age Range: 60 to 70
  • 🌎 Ethnicity: Hispanic

Mr. Smith is a quiet older man who is almost invisible in the room, except for his memorable green bow tie. He appears calm and pleasant, but beneath the surface is a deep sadness.
